About

My name is Rob Ziegler but my friends and colleagues call me Ziggy. I am a retired Naval Aircrewman, living on Whidbey Island, Washington. I spent my life operating sophisticated avionics, including reconnaissance video and photography equipment. Today, the digital hand held camera is my weapon. I now capture photos that reflect the beauty in people and nature.

Relationships, travel and experiences are of the utmost importance to me. When I photo-document, I create stories that are easy to remember and pass down-especially to my children & granddaughter. I experience deep joy when I capture the essence of a person through the twinkle of their eye or the turn of their smile. It solidifies the human connection. Sharing pictures of everyday people and beautiful locations make our world a little better-This is why I create photographs.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Books and photographs calm me like a weighted blanket. My photos and words are projects bound by passion, love and existential necessity. I enjoy sharing our world’s beauty with friends and family. This desire stems partly because I have seen tremendous ugliness in our world and I know where my time is better spent.

This webpage is a “highlights reel” from my search for self and purpose. These pictures are primed after eighteen months of formal education in the science and art of photography. To me this is a project of encouragement, hope and direction. I typically find photos of people the most intriguing. I see beauty in the sparkle of smiles and the twinkle of eyes. My spirit is lifted.
